- Minimize the use of polythene. Make it a habit to a carry your own bag etc to shopping before it becomes a necessity.
- Try saving as much water as you can, eg. one need not flush the complete flush tank after peeing, you definitely can push the lever back earlier as well
- Try generating as little waste as possible. Never throw any paper, plastic, etc in a dustbin, They are recyclable and are recycled. But throwing it in waste stops its recyclable life and puts pressure on millions of new trees that need to be cut for new wood and paper.
- Never throw food in a waste bin, it is not only disrespect of food but also a great deal even afterward to deal with as it decomposes and releases bad odor and many harmful gases that cause many diseases near landfill sites. Take a little effort to donate it to the poor or feed animals if you may find it. Not only will get you many blessings as well as will get you a whole lot of peace. Even if nothing of this works, use it to make compost at home, then either use it for your garden or may even ask any flower vendor to pick that up and sell them for himself. (We do all three of the above things with leftover food and residue)
- Try minimizing the usage of it. They are the worst emitters of Greenhouse gases thus worsening the situation. There is no harm in suggesting your office admin moderate the usage which is comfortable to employees. There is no point in making an office temperature 16°C which only forces people to wear shawls even in summers which is a general trend in most corporates. I sleep in on my roof or balcony or at least with my door open for fresh air and try using mere a fan even in summers, this keeps my lungs healthy and fresh which was further approved by a physician post a preliminary examination.
- Try to encourage gardening in at least your family. If you can plant 20-30 plants at least you will be trying to return as much oxygen as you are consuming. If you can take care of a tree, you would deserve a medal.
- Try consuming goods and services by companies who take responsibility for reversing climate change, the price may be a little higher but in long run, future generations will be thankful to you. Also, write complaint emails or negative Facebook posts to companies who are flouting regulations and standards of waste management.
If only a tenth of only our youth starts doing any part of it, we would be stepping into a new era of a much-developed society harmoniously coexisting with nature. Don't do this all alone, but also motivate your friends as well to take this route.
A friend of mine takes free classes for poor students but in return asks for one tree plantation and its care and utilizes them as volunteers in social causes.
